Uncle Bob's Legacy

Kemper Military Years

September 1936

Sep 7, 1936 -- Will! I'm off for Kemper. Hope I like... I don't know what to expect am hoping for the best.

Sep 8, 1936 -- Arrived today at 3 0'clock practiced in band from four to six, (about had a fight. I don't like hazing).

Sep 9, 1936 -- Had a few qualms but after sleeping on it I feel OK. I believe I'm going to like it.

Sep 10, 1936 -- Had my first good surprize today. Made 3rd chair solo. Not bad. Also I'm enrolled. I'm going to do my best.

Sep 11, 1936 -- Coming OK. No trouble as yet. Lessons are kind of tough. Had Oklahoma club meeting tonite. We're planning on dinner, dance. I'll have to save a little of the allowance.

Sep 12, 1936 -- Same proposition, or whatever you want to call it. Its not so bad though. Just tiresome, same old thing day after day.

Sep 13, 1936 -- Well! got my rifle today. Took me 3 hours to get just the grease off it let alone polishing it. Just another hair in my soup.

Sep 14, 1936 -- Well! finally get myself reported. That makes the fifth mile I've walked. Got to watch my step. Also got new shoes, they must feel sorry for me.

Sep 15, 1936 -- Well! Another day some more demirites, I'm really getting the old shoes broken in.

Sep 16, 1936 -- Went out for Company football today. I'll be able to make it, then some. Plenty big boy, though.

Sep 17 , 1936 -- Well! Played a game today. Fine stuff, not one day and play a game the next, I'm so darn stiff I can't hardly move.

Sep 18, 1936 -- 2 letters from mom. Well! Our football team looks a lot better. Isure am flat broke. Am looking forward to Saturday afternoon. We can go to town.

Sep 19, 1936 -- Same Old stuff.

Sep 20, 1936 -- Went to town met Stultz. Virginia . Had a nice time. 2 swell looking girls.

Sep 21, 1936 -- Saw Stultz again today. She sure gives me plenty of house!

Sep 22, 1936 -- Went to Navy band concert last nite. It was really wonderful. It was worth my time and money.

Sep 28, 1936 -- Played a game today. We won. I really was surprized at myself. I got my share of the tackles.

Sep 29, 1936 -- Dance tomorrow nite. Corbin - go me a blind date. I hope she isn't to bad. Boy, how I hate accounting.

Sep 30, 1936 -- Recuperated from dance. Slept till 7 - My that was a luxury - Boy! did I ever get stuck. Never again, "A blind date."
