Uncle Bob's Legacy

Bob's Journey to Europe

(As told by Robert McGill through his June - August 1938 Diary.)

Heidelburg

Tuesday, August 2, 1938

Arrived in Hiedelburg and went to express first thing.  Saw 3 boat friends first thing.  I was sure surprized.  Esther wondered what had happened to us.

At night we went to the Casino and saw Ark (Arkansas) - again that makes 3 different places I have seen her.  We all had quite a talk about our trips etc.

There was about 8 American girls there and it sure did gripe them  because we didn't dance with them.  It sure helps a persons ego.

Wednesday, August 3, 1938

Saw Heidelburg Castle and all we left for Mainz at 3 - Heidelburg is a good place to stay for a week or so.  Very beautiful and well ordered like any German town.

From Heidelburg we went to Frankfort and Mainz.  Stayed all night at Mainz.   Spent the evening writing  Cochron and talking to PB.  Also talked about a swell trip - Bombay - Calcutta, etc.  The Mar and Far East.

Stayed up to late.  Sure was tired when I went to bed.
