Uncle Bob's Legacy

Bob's Journey to Europe

(As told by Robert McGill through his June - August 1938 Diary.)

Bern, Switzerland

Tuesday, July 26, 1938

Have spent one day in Bern, Switzerland.  It is very beautiful.  Saw the Pacar Pit of Bern.  Went on a tour for 4 Franks.  Stayed at the hershen for one day and night - The best food I ever ate.  5 meals and good soft heil for 12 Franks ($3.00).

I think I will come back too Bern some day and live for awhile.  It is cheap and a beautiful city.  We saw it from all the points of vantage.

Got in Lucerne today at 3:30.  Met Greer, Hud, PB staying at a Ritzey Hotel.

Lucerne for a half a day.  It is too expensive to stay here very long but a beautiful place.  We went swimming and had quite a good time at Lido.  We met Arkansas again and she got us dates with 3 Texas girls on a tour.  We went to the Casino and danced.

That was the first time I had danced since the boat trip.  I really had lots of fun.  The orchestra from Brussels, Belgium and they were really good. On to Zurich.

Stayed in Zurich for one night.  Left the next day - (today).  Not much to see here - we were in our room and a couple of English boys came in and talked awhile from what I have seen of English, I don't think much of them.  They'rre sort of silly and really look weak and anemic.

No Swiss town compares to Bern in beauty or as being a cheap place to live.
