Bayfield, CO - NW Okie's Old Pine Stump flowerbed keeps growing and changing with new additions and plantings. At least until we get it to an aesthetic balance of plantings and old recyclable items, which add different textures and colors to our mountain "zen" (meditating) flowerbed.

Highland, Virginia - Given Names & Surnames

Highland, VA - We find in the History of Highland County, Virginia that nearly all the pioneers of Highland were adherents of the Presbyterian or of the Reformed Church. They were zealous Protestants. In naming their boys and girls parents showed a marked preference for names taken from the bible. We find a host of men named Andrew, Jared or Samuel, and a host of women with such names as Anna, Elizabeth, and Martha. Other names, such as Christian, paschal, Valentine and Sophia, are associated with church history.

Washington DC, - In the same article in The Washington Herald, dated 14 April 1913, there was this mention of a "Flower Is Named For Miss Wilson." It goes on to say, "Nelrose bloom is deep pink and a feature of New York exhibit.

After service in North Africa and Italy during World War II, my father, Dr. Miles William Kelly, MD, was stationed at the prisoner-of-war camp in Alva, Oklahoma from September 28, 1944 to September 17, 1945. He was one of the medical officers at the facility. For the most part, this account is based on the letters he sent home to my mother.

Miss Frances Perkins was an interesting figure among those who sought to secure a better condition for women in shop and Factory work forces.

Bayfield, CO - Oops the photo on the left showed three red "4th of July" tomatoes ripening this morning when I took this photo. But this evening when I went out to check the greenhouse there was only one and a half ripening red tomatoes.

Washington DC, - Consumers' League Meets Tomorrow, was the headline in The Washington Herald, dated 13 April 1913, Sunday, Washington, DC. In 1913 Miss Frances Perkins was secretary of New York Committee on Safety. Miss Frances Perkins of New York and Representative Andrew Peters of Massachusetts, were reported to be the principal speakers at the Consumers' League meeting on 14 April 1913.
