A Grandfather's Legacy

South Texas League Baseball - 1906

A Ninth Inning Finish

Austin Won from San Antonio in a Thrilling Wind Up
(Houston Post Special)

San Antonio, Texas, June 11 (1906) -- An error by Osgood, permitting Gardner to get to first after Hutchcroft had fanned, a hit by Gill, followed by a three-bagger by Jeffries after Bradley had gone out, won the game today in the ninth inning for Austin by a score of 5 to 4.

This was in the first half of the ninth, and although in the Broncos' half Thompson made a home run after Page had fanned, Thebo and Haldt were unable to connect with first safely and a good chance to prolong the game was lost.

The rain which fell heavily in the business portion of town kindly left the ball park almost high and dry. There was an occasional drizzle during the first five innings, but not enough to seriously interfere with the game. Despite the threatening clouds there was a good crowd present, and the game was fairly exciting.
