LaRocque Is the Boss Swat Artist of the League. Mowry Scored Most Runs
And Leads by Good Margin -- Austin Leads the Batting as a Team. Newman and McMurray Tied for Base Running Honors.
McGill, the Austin pitcher, leads the league with the swat stick with the somewhat bloated percentage of 321. McGill has only been at the bat fifty-six times. About one-fourth of the times the regulars have, and his fat average is liable to shrink very quickly. Walter Preston, Galveston's new recruit, follows McGill with a percentage of 315. Peston, like McGill, has played comparatively few games and their figures should be thrown out for the present. LaRocque of the Beaumont team is the real leader of the league. Hayes' second sacker has pounded out sixty-nine safe swats in 230 trips to the pan, and has an average of 300, which include seven two-baggers, four triples and two round trip tickets. Watson, a Galveston pitcher, is next on the list with an average of 295. "Mother" Bradley of the Senators is the next swat artist to butt into notice and he is tied with Watson and has an average of 295. John Massing is the premier bludgeon wielder for Houston and he has dropped down to 266. Joe Mowry is the next best sticksman in the Houston layout. Joe has a percentage of 250. The leaders of a few weeks ago are coming back to the bunch, only three are hitting at a 300 lick on better, and two of these have played but few games, and forty-nine are batting over the 200 mark. Beaumont leads the team batting. The Lumbermen have manufactured 458 bingles in 1943 trips to the pan, and have a percentage of 235. Austin is close up with 232. Houston, the leaders of the league with a good margin, are the poorest batters in the league, having an average of only 204. Harlow's people have the knack of scoring runs on feweer hits than any team in the league, but few safe swats are wasted. Austin has scored the most runs, 259. Beaumont is second in this department and Houston third. Joe Mowry is the boss run-getter of the league, having circled the ring forty-five times. Gill of Austin is second with thirty-eight tallies, and Thebo of San Antonio is third with thirty-six. Newman and McMurray are tied on the base stealing honors, each having seventeen to his credit. Clayton has sacrificed twenty-six times and has no competitor. Team Batting averages --
