A Grandfather's Legacy

Grandpa's Baseball Legacy - (June 11th & 12th, 1906)

Austin Won In Ninth

Trick was Turned After Two Men Were Out and
Score Tied At Three for Each of the Teams.

Jeffries Did Work

Big Fellow Pounded Out Three-Bagger and Brought in Two Runs
That Gave Senators Advantage Too Great to Be Overcome.

San Antonio, June 11 -- Austin won today's game after two men were out, by a score of 5 to 4. Up to that tuning the score was 3 to 3.

An error by Osgood, permitting Gardner to reach first, a safe hit by Gill and a three-bagger by Jeffries brought in two runs.

San Antonio still had an inning, but Thompson hit a clean home run over the fence, but no one else secured a clean hit.

A heavy shower fell before the game and it drizzled all through it, but not enough to stop the game.

San Antonio made three runs in the first two inning and it looked like three straight for the Bronchos.

Good pitching by McGill and gilt edged support won, however.

Creoles Made Usual Errors

By This Stunt They Lost To The Senators By A Score of 7 to 2

Gaining Firm Hold On The unwelcome Berth --
Starr Pitched A Good Game But the Miscues Were Too Much

.

Special to the Enterprise.
Lake Charles, La., June 12 -- What looked like a one to nothing game in favor of Lake Charles was transformed by five runs in the fourth inning and two in the eighth to a victory for Austin to the tune of seven to two. Starr pitched a splendid game for the Creoles, striking out ten men to MCall's five. Both Starr and McCall issued three passes.

The usual stunt in the error column was responsible for the Creoles defeat, they making six costly errors in the field to two made by the visitors. The game was a slow one and did not arouse the usual enthusiasm among the fans, probably owing to the fact that the umpiring was done by McGill for Austin and Logan for Lake Charles, and patrons of the game did not feel they had the usual right of Lake Charles fans to abuse the umpire, although a good deal of kids were piled upon head of both players who held the indicator. It seems to be the consensus of opinion that Horn is not strong enough for second base in the Creole team and several kicks at his slow movements were heard in the grandstand this afternoon. Randal who has been laid up for a long time with rheumatism played his first game this afternoon and did excellent work. Follow is the tabulated score.
